Doctor Who Kururin is a small Doctor Who-themed game inspired by the gameplay mechanics of the classic puzzle-action game Kuru Kuru Kururin. In this version, players control the TARDIS while navigating rotating obstacle-based levels that require timing, movement precision, and spatial awareness to complete.
The project was developed independently during a three-week game development introduction period as part of the first semester of the Creative Software Development course. During this introductory phase, students explored multiple development profiles, including web development, game development, and XR development. The project served as an experimental introduction to Unity and C# game development.
The game was fully developed using Unity and C#, with the complete gameplay implementation, level setup, and project structure created independently. The visual and audio assets were largely sourced from existing Doctor Who media and online resources in order to focus primarily on gameplay implementation and technical experimentation rather than custom art production.
One of the main technical challenges during development was working with Unity despite having limited interest in long-term game development and previous difficulties working with the engine during XR-related assignments. Successfully building and completing a fully playable game within the short development period became a personal technical achievement and provided practical experience with Unity workflows, scene management, object interaction, and gameplay scripting.
Although the game originally included ideas for future expansion and additional content, the project now mainly functions as an experimental showcase of early Unity and C# game development experience. The game remains publicly available through itch.io.
Built with Unity, C#, gameplay scripting, and interactive game development systems.
